I'm from Washington, D. , and I grew up during the period that I spent much of my life before I married a man, even as a boy. I'm still a young person now, but I've spent much of my time being around the gay and lesbian community, and I know how much I'm not alone. For many decades, our government has failed to act against the homosexual community (because it's too big and too violent), but when I discovered how far that government has come, I was not surprised. Over the years more than 150 states and the District of Columbia recognize same-sex marriages, and they do so by law. But as soon as I decided to do something, especially when it wasn't clear what to do, the Federal Government stopped enforcing it. I can't tell you how many times I've made the argument that public schools should be safe, but many states and the District of Columbia now recognize same-sex relationships.
