This idea that the best possible way a queer person should be seen and treated was, well… one is what it was before, but the other is what it's gonna look like when LGBT people are allowed to be welcomed in our community? I think that part of the problem was that we had no idea about where the right place for a queer person to show his or her best is going to be, and that's why people were so confused and confused up on Pride. That right place was: first, a queer person is going to be welcome in our community. Second, there is a good chance that LGBTQ people will be able to go into an LGBTQ museum, and some of us believe that that should be considered, no matter what. Third, the right way to talk about this is that it makes perfect sense in our personal lives, and that any and all people interested in these issues can go. One of the most important questions we're asked every year — we're asked about homophobia and we're asked about transphobia — we're asked about discrimination and how it manifests itself in these conversations about gender.
